In his formative years, Johannes Witbooi was exposed to Upington, a town in the Northern Cape province. Somehow detached from his being, he moved to Andriesvale where he set out to pursue and preserve the indigenous knowledge of the Khomani San through art and craft products.

The Khomani San people of the Kalahari have retained a lot of knowledge from their forefathers. Although some of this knowledge has been lost over time, through film documentation, young people are trying to save this knowledge. Traditional medicine is a contested domain. The San went through legal challenges with corporations manipulating their knowledge for commercial use.

Inspired By The Lion Of The Kalahari
OuLet Kruiper is the daughter of Dawid Kruiper – a man regarded as ‘The Lion Of The Kalahari.’ Kruiper was instrumental in the fight for the Khomani San land rights. The community was awarded the land they currently live in following a protracted struggle.
